Windows 10 and 11 in S mode are designed for security and performance, allowing only apps from the Microsoft Store. If you need to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store, you must switch out of S mode. This process is free and permanent, meaning you cannot go back to S mode once you switch.

Steps to Switch Out of S Mode

Open Settings on your PC.

Go to System > Activation.

Under Switch to Windows Home, find Switch out of S mode.

Click Open Store.

On the Switch out of S mode page in the Microsoft Store, click Get.

After confirmation, you can install apps from outside the Microsoft Store.
Important Notes

This applies to Windows 10 and 11 Home editions.

Windows 10/11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education do not support S mode.

Once switched, you cannot revert to S mode.
